Mid-Summer Update on New Floors in East Ramapo Buildings

Four of our school buildings - Pomona Middle School, Elmwood Elementary School, Kakiat STEAM Academy/ECC and Margetts Elementary - are getting new floors this summer, and so far they look fabulous! This process involves many steps, including ripping up the old floors, asbestos removal and abatement, grinding down the surface, applying a self-leveling compound, and then finally laying the new bright and shiny new floors. Each school’s color is represented in an occasional floor strip, adding in a splash of school spirit.

Also happening in these schools in the coming months, as well as in Hempstead Elementary and Chestnut Ridge Middle School - new kitchen hoods.

All of these facilities projects are thanks to The American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary Emergency Relief Fund (ARP-ESSER), which provided East Ramapo with the Federal funding to improve instruction and non-instructional spaces across the district. More capital improvement projects funded through these funds are planned for more schools in the summer of 2023 in Eldorado, Fleetwood, Grandview, Lime Kiln and Summit. If you are interested in reading more about the progress of the master project,, the construction management company hired by the district Jacobs Construction has recently provided a helpful update on the upgrades. Please visit www.ercsd.org/JacobsReportJuly2022 Page 3 of the report actually has a grid with an overall view of the whole multi-year project!

East Ramapo remains committed to providing sustained equitable access to high-quality programs and services, and these facilities upgrades are another step in meeting that goal. These facilities upgrades are making a tremendous difference in our schools. We are thrilled to welcome East Ramapo students back into the improved spaces this fall.
