The Growth of East Ramapo Titans Tennis, A Lifelong Sport
Tennis is the perfect social-distancing sport, which is probably why the sport has grown so popular since 2020, according to a recent report produced by Sports Marketing Surveys.
This national trend is also taking place right here in our district, according to Coach Morose Leonard, who has been growing the East Ramapo Titans tennis program for the past two years. “I’ve been a coach for two years now and it has been the most wonderful experience!” Leonard said, explaining that the number of students in the program has almost doubled since its inception in 2019. “It’s looking like a promising career.”
“We are excited to see such significant growth in the East Ramapo tennis program,” said Greg Russo, Academic Support Facilitator for Health, Physical Education, & Athletics. “The new and existing players are learning the fundamentals of Tennis - scoring, serving, forehand, backhand, and of course, tennis etiquette.”
Tennis can be played for life because it is a low-impact and non-contact sport. It is a fun, safe and healthy outlet that also boosts the students’ mental, emotional and physical development. And there are so many benefits beyond health and physical activity: Tennis promotes teamwork, social skills and sportsmanship, coordination, agility, and self-confidence.
