Board Meeting Roundup Notes From Nov 16 Board Meeting
November 22, 2021
Dear East Ramapo Central School District Families and School Community,
During the Thanksgiving season, when we traditionally take time to give thanks, I want to express my personal gratitude. I am extremely thankful for all the people who work to make our East Ramapo Central School District such an empowering place for our students.
Every day teachers, support staff, and administrators come to school prepared to provide the best possible learning experiences for our students. I am thankful for all of the creative staff members who constantly look for ways to motivate and excite our students. They work together to help students learn in a safe, nurturing environment.
In case you missed it, here are some of the highlights we discussed during the Board meeting on Tuesday, November 16, 2021:
Purple Heart Ceremony: Last week, East Ramapo had the honor of facilitating the enshrinement of the Purple Heart of Staff Sergeant Stanley Boorman. He was a graduate of Spring Valley High School, and lost his life defending our country in WW ll in 1945. His prestigious medal is now home in the main hallway at Spring Valley High School.
Town Hall Meeting: The focus will be on the State of the District and this is being scheduled in December.
Orton Gillingham Certification Training This week we had a week-long certification training for teachers on improving the literacy (reading and writing) skills of our students, which is a major part of our Long-term Strategic Academic Plan. The first group of teachers to get certified this week were our Special Education Teachers. We look forward to more of our teachers getting certified in the near future. Meanwhile, the Board adopted and approved the revised 2020-2025 revised Strategic Academic and Fiscal Plan.
Learning Walks: We continue to visit schools and observe the classroom learning targets, student engagement and differentiated instruction in a blended environment.
Update on Bussing: TOR is offering free fares - until further notice. The District has published an emergency bid (which will allow vendors to begin work immediately) and has also published a formal bid which will be opened in early December. The bid specifications with route details are posted on the district website. See Maps.
