Purple Heart Plaque of SSGT Stanley Boorman Makes Permanent Home at Spring Valley High School
On the eve of Veterans Day, the Purple Heart plaque of Army Air Corps SSGT Stanley Boorman was delivered to East Ramapo Schools Superintendent Dr. Clarence G. Ellis and Spring Valley High School Principal Karen Pinel. The military award now sits encased in the main hallway of Spring Valley High School for all staff and students to treasure.
Stanley Boorman was a graduate of Spring Valley High School Class of 1940 and he considered the school his second home. Unfortunately, he lost his life in World War II at age 24. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was shot down during a mission in Japan.
When Mr. Howard Golden, a Purple Heart recipient and local commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, asked Dr. Ellis if Spring Valley could be the final resting place to honor Boorman’s service, he agreed without hesitation.
Thanks to all the Spring Valley alumni, honored veterans, and members of the community who helped make this event so special, including the Spring Valley Police, the American Legion Post 199, the ERCSD Marching Band, Purple Hearts Reunited, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 120.
