Kakiat Scholars Read to ECC Students at ECC Family Reading Night

ECC Family Reading

On Wednesday night, November 3rd, Kakiat STEAM Academy's National Junior Honor Society read to ECC students for the first “ECC Family Reading Night”. The books, such as The King of Kindergarten and Froggy Goes to School were selected by the ECC teachers. Raffle door prizes were awarded, and each student received a free book and a snack bag.

A parent of Sophia, an ECC student: "Family Reading Night was a good way to see how far our children have come since starting school. As the readers would ask them questions about the story, their little eyes would light up to answer the questions, I think we all really enjoyed The King of Kindergarten. Thank you for making this possible."

Ms. Amma Brown, Kakiat Teacher:
“My heart is so full! Thank you for affording our scholars the opportunity to love on the ECC scholars and their families. Yesterday was a true display of collaboration, leadership and support of our community.”

Ms. Brittany Barrow, Teacher at Kakiat STEAM Academy and NJHS Advisor:
"Watching the Kakiat leaders step up and engage with the ECC community was truly a rewarding experience. These scholars started out nervous but once they began reading they transformed into exceptional storytellers. Through this collaboration with ECC, the Kakiat scholars learned the benefits of community service. Additionally, ECC scholars were introduced to student leaders they share the same building with. Last night's partnership exemplified how unified the East Ramapo Community is."

Thanks to all who collaborated on this inaugural event, including Principal Barrow, select ECC and Kakiat Faculty and Staff, District Social Worker Yoanny Lora, LMSW, and Ana Vila, ECC’s devoted Family Resource Coordinator.
