King For A Day Oratorical Competition

East Ramapo Central School District is once again participating in the King For A Day Oratorical Competition, taking place on February 15, 2021.  All district 7th and 8th graders are invited to participate in this event, which is sponsored by the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., Epsilon Chi Chapter, an organization of educators committed to Y-E-S: Youth, Education, and Service.  They have been serving Orange/Rockland communities since 2005.

In the King For A Day Oratorical Competition, contestants recite  1 ½  to 2 minute-long speech excerpts related to the African American experience: 7th graders recite exclusively for the words of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. while 8th grade students recite speech excerpts from other prominent people. The top three winners get trophies.  All contestants get a certificate of participation.

“We at Chestnut Ridge Middle School are proud of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies our students have been awarded over the years. This is a unique challenge, and an extraordinary opportunity for East Ramapo Central School District students to demonstrate their strong communication skills, which enriches their educational journey.” Howard Buchman, Academic Standards Facilitator at Chestnut Ridge Middle School.

Students must register to participate in this competition no later than Friday, January 15, 2020. For more information about registering in East Ramapo Central School District, please contact Normearlesa Thomas at nthomas845@aol.com  or Howard Buchman at hbuchman@ercsd.org .
