Due to the impact of COVID-19, each student in the East Ramapo Central School District will be issued a Chromebook (laptop computer) for use during at-home/distance learning, as well as in-person instruction. All students will be responsible for care and handling of their device.
Since remote learning began in March, computer manufacturers have struggled to meet demands they were not prepared for, while also trying to overcome embargoes and other hurdles to getting components from overseas. As a result of this nationwide technology backlog, East Ramapo is facing a temporary shortage of 6,200 Chromebook units.
In the meantime, ERCSD wants to ensure that every home without a device has access to appropriate technology. To achieve this, the District will provide ONE Chromebook to each household. The current goal is that, by early October, all students will have an individual, school-issued device. The District is also asking parents who have computers (not ipads or tablets) at home to use their own devices until the new Chromebooks arrive.
Please note that distribution for household Chromebook devices is arranged at your child's school. Parents, guardians and caregivers requesting technology for special needs should contact their building principal.
Delivery of individual Chromebook devices (expected in early October) will be scheduled at your child’s school, once the District receives the technology.
