Spring 2021 New York State Assessment Information
Statement from Chancellor Lester W. Young, Jr. and Commissioner Betty A. Rosa on the USDE denial of the Assessment Waiver Request
The United States Department of Education (USDE) has determined that state education departments nationally will adhere to testing requirements in the federal education law – Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has submitted a formal request to waive elementary, middle, and high school testing requirements (Assessment Waiver). Should the USDE, “deny NYSED's waiver request, only four of the June 2021 Regents Exams will be administered; only Session 1 of the Grades 3-8 English Language Arts (ELA) and Math Tests will be required; and only the one-session Written Test component of the Grades 4 and 8 Science Tests will be administered.”
NYSED has provided school districts with flexibility for the local in-school scheduling and administration of the Spring 2021 tests. Testing schedules have been amended and guidance supplied. The East Ramapo Central School District will coordinate efforts to provide a safe and secure state testing program for Spring 2021.
