Policy on Plagiarism

Spring Valley High School students are expected to maintain high academic standards and good character in completing all assignments. This includes doing one’s own work and giving credit whenever other sources are used.

According to Gibaldi and Achtert, “Plagiarism is the act of using another person’s ideas or expressions in your writing without acknowledging the source…in short, to plagiarize is to give the impression that you have written or thought something that you have in fact borrowed from someone else.”

The Spring Valley High School penalty for plagiarism is:

  1. a zero on the assignment;
  2. a parent conference with the teacher and the support administrator;
  3. documentation on the student’s disciplinary record.
