Elmwood Elementary Sixth Grader Wins National Story Writing Contest

On Wednesday, December 5, the Story Pirates visited Elmwood Elementary School to announce their newest kid author, sixth grader Angie Ortiz!

Angie’s story idea, centered around an 11 year-old girl who lives in a village surrounded by walls, was chosen out of hundreds of other entries in a nationwide contest seeking the company’s third kid author-inspired book. The first two winners were students from Memphis, Tennessee and New York City. Angie, who first learned about the contest through her writing teacher Mrs. Wendy Zweig, can’t wait for her idea to be turned into a full-length book written by acclaimed authors Annabeth Bondor-Stone and Connor White in 2020.

Story Pirates is a kid-centric media company that brings the wild and creative imaginations of young people to life through the art of storytelling. The Story Pirates and Random House Children’s Books teamed up again for this year’s theme, “Fantasy Adventure.”

Congratulations, Angie, and keep writing!
