Important Announcement from Superintendent Regarding East Ramapo Summer Programs

May 31, 2024

Dear East Ramapo Community,

After much consideration and consultation with our construction contractors, CSArch and Jacobs, the East Ramapo Central School District has made the difficult decision to close all school buildings this summer to perform significant renovations designed to improve our students’ learning environment and facilities.

Unfortunately, due to the scope of the work required, a number of summer programs will be directly impacted.

The following ERCSD summer programs will NOT operate:

All Sports Academy
Summer Sprouts Academy
Rise Up Academy
Computer Science Academy
Fine and Performing Arts Academy

The following summer programs WILL operate in alternate locations:

Mandated summer programming (ESY-Extended School Year) for special education students. District administrators are working with external organizations to secure an alternate site for Extended School Year programming.

Credit-bearing summer school programs for high school grade 11 and 12 students will be held and supported at Rockland BOCES.

The decision prioritizes our most fragile population and preserves our commitment to our graduation expectations.

The two-month closure of all East Ramapo buildings ensures the safety of our students and will facilitate the timely completion of improvements ensuring all learning spaces are in good working order and prepared to receive incoming students and staff for the 2024-25 academic year.

The East Ramapo Central School District is committed to keeping our parents and caregivers informed throughout the coming weeks. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We appreciate your patience and support as we work to enhance our school environment for the benefit of all students and staff. As always, the health and well-being of our school community is our top priority.

Our Family Welcome Center is prepared to provide families with options for alternative summer programs and activities, at (845) 577-6073

Warmest Regards,

Clarence G. Ellis, Ed. D.
