Black History Month Celebrations across the District

Black History Month Celebrations across the District

Across the East Ramapo Central School District, schools have marked Black History Month through engaging learning experiences that celebrate culture, history and achievement. During physical education classes, scholars explored the art of Double Dutch jump roping, a rhythmic tradition rooted in Black American culture. Many schools also welcomed visiting artists from Chiku Awali African Dance, Arts & Culture, Inc., who brought African drumming, dance and storytelling to life through interactive performances that immersed students in vibrant rhythms and cultural expression through music and movement. In other buildings, the celebration extended into morning announcements, where students shared trivia and read excerpts highlighting influential historical figures.

Together, these initiatives reflect the district’s commitment to meaningful educational experiences that honor Black history through movement, participation and discovery.
