In an attempt to maintain a continual “Child Find” program, the East Ramapo Central School District is committed to locating and identifying disabled youngsters residing within District boundaries, including preschool-aged children and those attending non-public schools. If you suspect your child has a disability, we urge you to share your concerns with your child’s teacher or your school’s Assistant Principal. We also encourage you to share any developmental concerns with your pediatric provider.

The New York State Education Department is committed to promoting sound information practices and policies that will strengthen data privacy and security at state educational agencies, empower parents with information, and advance efficient and effective school operations. These regulations provide guidance regarding protecting the Personally Identifiable Information (PII) of students and staff. These regulations for safeguarding data are strictly complied with by East Ramapo Central Schools. District policies are Policy 4526 and 4526-R, Acceptable Usage, 8635 Information and Data Privacy, and 8630 and 8630-R Computer Resources and Data Management.

Security assurance documentation for specific educational software is posted through a public portal, Data Privacy and Security Inventory tool (DPSS). This portal provides easy access to critical security information integral to the educational environment. Please visit this portal to view security documentation. Parents can request information about third-party contractors by accessing the information posted through the DPSS portal or contacting the District’s Data Protection Officer at dpo@ercsd.org.

Parents have the right to have complaints about possible breaches and unauthorized disclosures of student data addressed. Complaints should be directed to the District’s Data Protection Officer who can be reached at dpo@ercsd.org. ERCSD District Wide Emergency Plan 2026-27

The East Ramapo Central School District, Spring Valley, New York, in compliance with Federal and State statutes and School District policy, prohibits discrimination against any student, employee or applicant for employment on the basis of age, color, creed, gender, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, disability, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), a federal law, allows schools to disclose student directory information to selected government agencies without written parental consent unless parents/guardians have advised the school district to the contrary (“opt-out” forms). Directory information that may be published may include a student’s name, grade, awards, activities, photograph, etc. Further, these rules will implement Education Law Section 2-d and provide guidance to educational agencies and their third-party contractors on ways to strengthen data privacy and security to protect student data and annual professional performance review data. If you wish to “opt-out” and not permit your child’s photo and/or directory information to be used in district newsletters, media releases, and the district website, please complete the form on the back of this letter and return it to your child’s building principal no later than ten days after receipt of this letter.
