• Dear Parents/Guardians:

     Dear Parents/Guardians:

I will be your child's Collaborative Teacher for his/her core classes in Social Studies, English, Science, and Mathematics for the 2018-2019 school year.  This means that I will assist your child in all of their general educations classes and also monitor your child's IEP goals.

The general education core curriculum consist of the following:

Social Studies - The Social Studies curriculum begins with an overview of the Civil War and ends United States History from the Civil War Era   Discovery of the United States, starting in the 7thgrade,  begins with an understanding of Geography and ends with the Civil War.  The English curriculum consist of exploring many of the literary genres, developing critical thinking skills, and enhancing your childs writing skills.

Throughout the coming school year, students will be engaged and challenged in a variety of ways.  Students will explore topics in United States history, as well as touching on many of the genres in literature through traditional means such as homework, quizzes, and tests.  They will also develop creative skills through projects that incorporate technology.

Writing assignments will challenge the students to think critically and express their opinions in organized essays. The material being studied will frequently lead to group discussion and sometimes debate.   You will find there will be many ways for your child to succeed in Social Studies and in English this year.

Please take the time to read through the classroom guidelines sent home with your child.  The guidelines provide a basis for how the classroom will be managed. Students have received textbooks to keep at home until June for nightly homework and studying. They should arrive to class each day with a binder, paper, and a pen.

I look forward to a productive and exciting school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at dsaint-victor@ercsd.org.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Diana Saint-Victor
