Special Education Procedures

Parents of a student classified as a student in need of special education may secure District transportation to their student’s NPS for a distance up to 50 miles from the student’s home if certain conditions are met by the New York Education Law. Parents who are planning on placing their student in a private special education school and are requesting District transportation for the 2023-2024 school year must also submit the Transportation Request Form.

If the NPS special education school is between 15 and 50 miles from the student’s home, then the parent must contact the East Ramapo Central School District Office of Special Student Services to arrange for a review by the District’s Committee on Special Education (CSE).

The Education Law states that students with disabilities parentally placed in private schools who are requesting District transportation beyond 15 miles and up to 50 miles from their home are entitled to such transportation if the child is attending the NPS for receiving services or programs similar to special educational programs recommended for such student by the local CSE.  Parents should contact the Special Student Services Office at 845-577-6046 to arrange for a CSE meeting for your student if needed to request District transportation for the 2023-2024 school year as indicated above.
