World Languages
French and Spanish
The goal of World Language courses is to develop students in becoming bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural. Students will learn the linguistic intricacies of language, as well as develop knowledge of the cultural aspects of language studies. These components will provide them with opportunities to understand their surroundings from different perspectives. As the global economy increases, being bilingual and biliterate gives students the advantage of demonstrating their linguistic and academic proficiency in multilingual settings.
The District offers French and Spanish World Language classes in grades 7-12. Course levels span from Beginning 1 to College level. Also available are classes specifically designed for students whose home/heritage language is either French or Spanish. These classes allow students to develop a deeper understanding of their home/heritage language and culture.
New York State Seal of Biliteracy
High school students who have attained a high level of proficiency in English and one or more world languages may be eligible to pursue the New York State Seal of Biliteracy.
