Superintendent Search

Note: As of November 3, 2025, the Community Input Survey will remain open indefinitely. The District welcomes your input on the search for the next superintendent.

The Board of Education has selected Dr. Harold A. Coles, Southern Westchester BOCES District Superintendent and his Administrative Team, to serve as our search consultants and oversee the process.

Working with Dr. Coles, we have begun to develop a plan and timeline, as well as a profile of the expertise and qualities we are seeking in our next superintendent. To assist us in this effort, we are inviting you to participate in a brief survey. The Board values your input and wants to provide an opportunity for all the stakeholder groups to share their views on the characteristics needed in a new district leader, as well as your thoughts on district aspirations and goals over the coming years.

There will be two Town Hall Stakeholder Meetings open to the community for the SW BOCES superintendent search team to gather community stakeholder input to the search.

They will take place:

Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at the Admin Building,
105 South Madison Avenue, Spring Valley, NY 10977
6 p.m. to 7 p.m., PLCC Room

Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Spring Valley High School,
361 Route 59, Spring Valley, NY 10977
6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Auditorium

At a Glance - The Process:

1. The East Ramapo BOE met with Dr. Coles of Southern Westchester BOCES (SWBOCES) on September 2, 2025.
2. Stakeholder input will be received through a survey and an in-person community forum on October 28, 29 and 30, 2025.
3. Stakeholder and BOE member input will be considered in the creation of the job posting and recruitment brochure.
4. The position will be posted from November 5, 2025 through December 29, 2025.
5. In early January, SWBOCES will conduct screening interviews with qualified applicants and will recommend 6 – 10 candidates for the BOE to consider interviewing
6. During the screening interview process, preliminary reference checks occur.
7. In late January and early February, the BOE will select and interview 6 – 8 candidates and the select 2 or 3 to move forward for final interviews.
8. In mid-February, each finalist will participate in a full-day series of interviews, meeting with stakeholders and BOE members.
9. At this point, complete reference checks will occur.
10. In late February, the BOE will select the final candidate and offer the position.
11. The contract is then negotiated.
12. The new Superintendent’s start date will be July 1, 2026.

Important to Note:

• Each step in the process will be planned and organized collaboratively between the SWBOCES team and the East Ramapo Board of Education members.
• All interviews and meetings will occur in-person.
• Preparation meetings with stakeholders and BOE members will occur throughout the process.
• Hiring the superintendent is the responsibility of the Board of Education.

September 2025 

• Dr. H. Coles and Southern Westchester BOCES (SWBOCES) presented the search process and options at the September 2, 2025 board meeting.
• The board appointed Dr. H. Coles and Southern Westchester BOCES as the search consultants at the September 29, 2025 board meeting.Dr. Coles presented the process and timeline to the community.

October 2025

• The online community surveys from SWBOCES were uploaded to the web site. Social media was done.
• The online survey was sent to the board members.
• Community stakeholder meetings were scheduled for October 28th and 29th.
• SWBOCES met with student stakeholder representatives.

November 2025

• SWBOCES attended the November 3, 2025 board meeting and presented a status update with results from the online survey and the community stakeholder meetings, and what the next steps are. Read the Detail Report
