2024 Dates to Remember
- April 22 - Candidate Petitions must be filed with the District Clerk by 5 p.m.
- May 21 - Budget Vote & Trustee Election Day
- June 18 - Budget Revote (if needed)
The Wards with 2024 Board of Education trustee elections are:
- Ward 1 - Ashley Leveille, whose current term ends June 30, 2024 - for a term from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027
- Ward 4 - Shimon Rose whose current term ends June 30, 2024 - for a term from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027
- Ward 7 - Harry Grossman, whose current term ends June 30, 2024 - for a term from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027
Any individual who wishes to be a candidate for the Board of Education of the East Ramapo Central School District must meet certain legal requirements to be qualified for membership on a school board.
A person is qualified to be a candidate for the Board of Education if he or she meets the following criteria:
- Must reside in the Ward where they will be a candidate
- Must be able to read and write
- Must be a qualified voter of the School District (U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, and not adjudged incompetent)
- Must be and have been a resident of the School District for a continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one year prior to the election
- May not have been removed from any School District office within the preceding one year
- May not reside with another member of the same school board as a member of the same family
- May not be a current employee of the school board
- May not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office
All candidates must file petitions with the District Clerk.
Each petition must be completed in full, including declaration of the seat for which you intend to run.
The required number of signatures for each ward are at the bottom of the petition form.
A candidate may petition for only one seat.

Petitions must be delivered to the District Clerk at 105 South Madison Avenue, Spring Valley, NY 10977 no later than 5:00 pm on Monday, April 22, 2024.
All candidates must file three sworn or affirmed statements with both the District Clerk and the NYS Commissioner of Education when total campaign expenditures and contributions (made by candidates or on their behalf) exceed $500.00. When campaign expenditures and contributions are less than $500.00, the candidate must file a sworn statement only with the District Clerk. The filing dates are on the forms.
Training
Once elected, you will be required by New York State law to fulfill mandatory training within your first year of service. This includes fiscal oversight training and governance skills training.
