The goal of the East Ramapo Central School Districts physical education program is to provide an environment conducive to developing physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. Ingrades K-3, areas of concentration include locomotor and non-locomotor movements, ball handling skills, eye-hand and eye-foot coordination, and small organized games; Grades 4-6 experience the organized elements of team sports. Team sports are continued and developed through the 7-8 curriculum as well as individual lifetime sports. In grades 9-12, the emphasis is placed on students being competent and proficient in a variety of team, individual, and lifetime activities in addition, special emphasis on the overall benefits of physical activity. The program consists of activities that foster these benefits by developing and encouraging all facets of fitness (aerobic capacity, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition), assuring self-management skills necessary for an active and healthy lifestyle.
