    What is Physical Education? 

    Physical Education provides the framework and skills for students to live a healthy and active lifestyle.  Physical Education provides cognitive content and instruction to develop the body and mind. In Physical Education, students build their knowledge and level of physical fitness by exploring and learning a wide variety of neuromuscular skills. Physical Education helps students develop responsible social behaviors that promote personal and group success. This includes but is not limited to nutrition, decision making, stress reduction, meditation, social-emotional learning, teamwork, conflict resolution, and knowledge and skills related to various sports and activities.

    The goal of the East Ramapo Central School Districts' Physical Education program is to provide an environment conducive to developing physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. In grades 9-12, the emphasis is placed on students being competent and proficient in a variety of team, individual, and lifetime activities in addition, special emphasis on the overall benefits of physical activity. The program consists of activities that foster these benefits by developing and encouraging all facets of fitness (aerobic capacity, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition), assuring self-management skills necessary for an active and healthy lifestyle. Team sports and activities continue to be developed at the high school level. Students are provided with the foundation of weight training and are taught mindfulness activities throughout the school year. As students graduate, they will have the content and knowledge to live an active and healthy lifestyle.
