Author Visits at Kakiat S.T.E.A.M. during Black History Month
East Ramapo Central School District has been celebrating Black History and Black Excellence throughout the month of February. One of the many special events at Kakiat S.T.E.A.M. Academy included in-person visits from two extraordinary and notable young black authors with special ties to the East Ramapo community.
On Thursday, February 24th, Nastasha Pollard read Puffy, a fun children's book she coauthored with Kelechi Onyejiaka about the relationship between a girl and her hair.
Nana Kwame-Adjei-Brenah, an East Ramapo alumni, read from his debut New York Times Best Seller Friday Black, a book about what it is like to be young and black in America. His remarkable debut novel reveals the violence and injustices black people regularly face in this country.
