The middle school Social Studies curriculum consists of a two-year course of study, which begins with seventh grade topics that include Native American civilizations, colonial life, the American Revolution, the Civil War and Reconstruction. During their second year, our eighth grade students cover the effects of Reconstruction to present day America. Unlike previous years, beginning this year there will be no New York State Assessment.
This year, more time can be spent on investigating, researching and learning about our rich American Heritage. Our teachers offer opportunities for student-centered activities such as Problem Based Learning, group work, and other self-directed experiences to provide avenues for our students to explore and expand their knowledge about America and its impact on the global society.
